From Camille St. Martin

Why Is Liquor Called Spirits? Poems & Thoughts On Alcohol…

A poem from my new book on sobriety, alcohol addiction, and how we view alcohol in society…

Spirits
Sold right here
What they want you to believe
Like it’s something you can buy
Your one stop shop
For connection to the divine
A lie told so many times
We don’t stop to think
Just drink, drink, drink,
Drink away our spirit more
Our soul
Our love
Our light
We hold that bottle tight
Thinking we’ll find it all there
They told us that
So it must be true, right?
Ignoring
Every morning
When we wake up
Destroyed
Crumbled
Black and blue
How many lies
Do we need to undo
To uncover
Our true
Spirits
